The working title SOUNDING VISIONS describes the idea of integrating music and image or video works into an overall concept, with the aim of adding additional areas of impact to the music beyond its purely tonal properties.
The program consists of three longer works (music and video each). The three options for hierarchically dealing with video and music are presented. Used terms such as experimental film, visuals, scoring, sound design or film music are reflected, especially with regard to a work-ontological perspective (ie what exists beforehand, image or sound, or how do video artist and composer work together).
The aim of the evening is to address artistic possibilities in the hierarchical work with video and music and to make common or disparate aspects accessible aesthetically and discursively.
Conny Zenk (Video) / Hannes Kerschbaumer (Composition)
A video work by Conny Zenk serves as the starting point for the composer. Kerschbaumer's music explicitly refers to the visual aspects of the video (image → sound).
Matthias Leboucher (Composition, Video)
Soundscope (v2) (2019)
for quintet, live electronics, realtime visualisation on Oscilloscope
Leboucher (composition and video) develops a setup that thinks of his music in direct connection to its visualization (he shows the visual dimension of his sounds in real time as a visualization using an oscilloscope). In this way, he also invented musical forms because of their visual appeal and merges both areas (image = sound).
Marco Döttlinger (Composition) / Patrik Lechner (Live Video)
bleeding from my inner ears III (2019)
for ensemble, electronics and video (20 ')
The piece of music serves as the basis for the video artist to design a visual translation. A software developed by Lechner analyzes the sound and allows him to interpret his video together with the musicians at the moment of the performance (sound → image).
